In 2021 Tauranga Girls’ College will see the start of a new era. A change in the house structure was seen as the ideal opportunity to revisit our current house names, and decide who or what now inspires our young wahine.

Wednesday 04 November marked the end of a chapter for this year's cohort of 2016.

NCEA Examinations begin on Monday 16 November.

During and post the Covid-19 lockdown, we were fortunate as a kura to have enough school owned Chromebooks to issue so that we could support the learning of just over 400 students.

Friday 13 November is a Junior Study day. Year 9 and 10 students will remain at home to prepare for the upcoming Junior Assessment Week (16 - 20 November). There is no school on this day for students; teachers will themselves be engaged in professional learning.

Monday 23 November is a Ministry of Education Teacher Only Day. Our teachers will be taking part in this important professional learning about the changes to NCEA. There will be no school on this day for our Junior students. NCEA examinations continue on this day.

Congratulations to Year 11 student Ella Mitchell who received an Honorable Mention in the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2019 - ICEFA Lidice - held in the Czech Republic.

Congratulations to Ashlen Kaur and Maya Wells in Year 12 who have both won a place on the Royal Society’s Powering Potential programme.

The Australasian Problem Solving Mathematics Olympiad (APSMO) is a competition that is aimed to challenge mathematical thinkers, and one in which our Year 9 students have successfully participated for many years. The competition involves solving five sets of five problem solving tasks in thirty minutes, with team members getting a mark for every correct response. At the end of the competition the results are totalled individually and as a team.

The International Department held their End of Year Celebration Dinner at Persimmon Lane in Te Puna. A beautiful venue surrounded by amazing gardens.

Level 3 Japanese language students made the popular Japanese street food - Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki as a celebration for the end of their Japanese Language programme and the end of an era for Tauranga Girls' College as the last of the Japanese language cohort finishes.

Mid-Autumn Festival and Diwali were celebrated in front of J Block at Tauranga Girls’ College on 28 October. Diwali is a popular festival in India which celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The mid-autumn or moon cake festival traditionally celebrates harmony, togetherness and happiness.

On Thursday 22 October, eight junior Business Studies classes, approximately 230 students, held their annual market day, selling products and services to the remainder of the school.

Year 12 students Kahurangi Ngatai and Kyaria Warbrick are keen to revive Te Whare Wānanga o Mereaira and make it a more welcoming place for our wāhine.

On Tuesday 27 October, the Y11 and Y13 SPR and Y13 PE students took on the NZ Secondary Schools Tough Guy and Gal Challenge in Rotorua.

Over Labour Weekend, seven of our current students and one past student were members of the Mid-Northern U18 Underwater Hockey women’s team that competed in the U18 Interzone Championship in Wellington.
