As part of our school redevelopment programme we have been working with Ngāi Tuāhuriri to develop our cultural narrative. A cultural narrative recognises the historical relationship between the area and its mana whenua. It describes what is unique about the place and the people our school is part of. It helps build a common understanding of heritage, traditional and spiritual connections, and values.

Cotswold Mātāhae School celebrates New Zealand's cultural diversity, and strives to ensure that all students feel culturally safe and valued. We aim to create a learning environment that is caring, inclusive, cohesive, and supports the cultural and linguistic diversity of our students. We appreciate that students may identify with more than one cultural group.

As part of our PE programme, Year 2 – 6 children will visit Jellie Park for a series of 10 swimming lessons. Children will have lessons in small groups. Previous classes which have taken part in this programme have reported a big improvement in the children’s swimming skills.

We believe orientation for students, and their parents where relevant, is a key process that begins before a student arrives, is very important in the first few weeks, and continues throughout the student's time in New Zealand in the form of ongoing advice and support.

Orientation for parents/legal guardians of international learners under 18 years is important to ensure that they have a warm welcome to New Zealand, have good support while living here, and are able to make informed choices.

All New Zealand children enrolled at a State School are entitled to a 'free education'. State schools are funded by the Government and teachers are paid by a central government pay service. International students do not qualify for 'free education' and are required to pay a fee.

On Saturday 5th of November the Cotswold Cuties, a Year One Jump Jam team performed at the National South Island Jump Jam competition in the Year Four Advanced grade. This is a massive achievement for these children as they are the youngest team to ever perform at a Jump Jam competition.

Congratulations to the children who performed at the Tōtaranui Kāhui Ako Cultural Festival on yesterday.

A number of our students received Cotswold Mātāhae Learner Awards at our Assembly last Friday.

We are excited to announce we are opening expressions of interest for Music lessons at Cotswold in 2023.

A reminder to all participants in the Potato Growing Competition that Weigh In is on the Wednesday 30 November (which isn't too far away now!)

Our Performance Kapa Haka group will be performing at the Tūhono Kapa Haka Festival on Saturday 26 November at the Christchurch Town Hall.

As part of our Outdoor Education Programme programme, Year 4 children will visit South Brighton Beach for Beach Education and being safe in the surf. Trained lifeguard instructors will be working with the children with this activity.

All parents and members of the Cotswold Mātāhae Learning Community are invited to attend our Year 6 Graduation and Final Assembly for 2022.

As part of ‘The Amazing Rumble’ to the end of year, the children in Rooms 24, 25, 26 will be participating in an event run by Canterbury Primary Schools Sport Association called ‘Tough Kids’.

This year we will be holding the Junior School Duathlon on Friday 9 December. Races will be held from 9.20am through to 12.40pm.
