Staff member Mrs Sandy Kindley was recently awarded the New Zealand Hockey Silver Service Award for Service to Hockey.

On Thursday May 9 our Pasifika group held a fundraiser to help raise funds for our upcoming school events. We made Pasifika food bowls and sold them to our school students and teachers.

On March 30 the Year 11 and 12 Drama classes travelled to Rotorua to perform in the regional rounds of SGCNZ’s University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival.

This was held on the last Thursday of Term 1, in what started out as torrid conditions. A thunderstorm drenched all the competitors, with the swimmers wet before they even touched the water.

Bees, honey, drones, satellites, near-infra red technology, controlled atmosphere storage and automated stacking, we saw it all.

Oceans 2019 is the national surf life saving championships for athletes aged from 10-14.

It has recently been extremely busy for the Drama students at Katikati College. With regional competitions and numerous performance showcases coming up, they have been working their hardest to produce extremely high-quality performances.

Innovative Horticulture students recently visited a number of local growers to see how they manage conditions to maximise production.

Katikati College had eleven swimmers qualify at Thames Valley Champs to go through and swim in Hamilton against the best of the Waikato swimmers.

In March 2019, the year 12 Outdoor Education class went down to Murupara for three days to kayak the Aniwhenua River.

This is an annual event held nationwide and in many different locations as a culmination of the secondary school summer sports season.

Our Year 9 students are currently concluding a term long learning unit on fairy tales. Students have explored conventions, language features and lessons we take from ancient and modern fairy tales and applied this learning to a fairy tale of their own, set in Katikati.

Katikati College sent a team of 50 athletes to Waihi College to compete against our Thames Valley rivals on March 12.

For a Year 12 Environmental Studies project, Josh Macdonald and Ava Matthews-Davies recently ran a colouring competition for the Year 7/8 Aihe Pod. Joshua reports:

In Term Two, Kiwi Can is focusing on the topic of ‘Integrity’ in your child’s class. Each week they will have a Kiwi Can lesson, which is carefully designed to teach values and life skills.
