Ukulele Jam On The Taieri.

A Strumming Success!

On Wednesday, four talented young ukulele players had the opportunity to participate in the annual Ukulele Jam at Taieri College.

The event brought together just over 200 enthusiastic children from various schools, creating an exciting atmosphere full of music, creativity, and collaboration.

Our group had been hard at work in the lead-up to the event, practicing a total of 12 songs. Each song challenged their skills in different ways, and when it came time to perform, they did so alongside a live band—a thrilling experience for any young musician!

A special highlight of the day was Grace MacRae's achievement, who earned 2nd prize in the ukulele design competition.

In addition to the music, there was also some Collaborative Art happening while the children strummed away. Supported by the Dunedin Art Gallery, children were guided in using dots and small squares to create a collective art piece. In an exciting turn of events, Outram School’s name was pulled out at the end to keep the artwork—a beautiful memento of the day.

The power of Music and Art to bring people together was on full display, and all four children made the most of the experience.

I couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and dedication. Here's to more musical and artistic adventures in the future!
