What Room 13 has been getting up to in Technology this week..

Every fortnight, Room 13 goes to the library and completes a different library activity based on a different genre of books.

This week we had a video call with Juliette who moved to Spain at the beginning of the term. It was great to catch up with her and hear how she has been settling in!

This week we completed some dance lessons in preparation for our pantomime.

Last week we completed a dive session with a national dive coach who took us for a skill session.

After spending the week writing our play scripts, we then performed our masterpieces for the class. It was awesome to see the different interpretations of Three Little Pigs and everyone putting on their acting boots in front of the class!

On Wednesday, we went and visited our buddy class Hoiho at Tainui. We had prepared some questions to ask them so we can get to know what they like as an audience. We also read them a fairytale and played with them in the playground. Here are our thoughts on our first visit...

This week for PBL, We are practicing how to write a play script.

Term 3 = new Tech rotation for R13

This term our PBL question is; How do we, as Project Managers, create and perform a pantomime for preschool and NE students?

Last term, one of our focuses in PBL was giving feedback using the format of "I like.. and I wonder.."

Room 13 will miss you!

This week one of our rotations was learning Māori games.

Mrs Bowen taught us about traditional Māori instruments and we listened to stories of how the instruments were made.

One of our rotations this week was looking into Māori myths and legends.

After our second feedback session and prototype 2 - every student made their own sustainable lunch box option.

This week in the library we got into pairs to interview each other about the type of books we like, our interests, fiction or nonfiction preference.

After adjusting our prototypes from the feedback from our peers, Room 13 and Room 18 began creating their first prototypes.

This week we had Kings High School come in and take us for a Football session. They did some skills, drills and then ended with some mini-football games. It was great to see all of Room 13 involved. We have some talented footballers in Room 13!

This week Room 13 and 18 and have been working on their first prototype for their PBL project.

This week Room 13 and Room 18 have been looking at sustainable lunchboxes and how Tahuna can limit how much rubbish is coming into school daily in our lunch boxes.

Well done to Callum and his pink ensemble for winning one of the prize packs for best dressed!

Today, R13 was lucky enough to have a visit from the Blake Foundation.

One of our Basic Fact rotations recently has been playing the game called Factris and it has caught R13 by storm.

Every fortnight, Room 13 goes to Music with Mrs Bowen. This session children were learning about Sound Science. They learnt about frequency, tone and Hertz. They also find fun experiments with sounds and water and oobleck.

Our focus for our PBL topic this term is: How do we as Waste Minimisation Agents reduce the waste at Tahuna and promote a more sustainable future?

On Friday, R13 had a go with the Lego WeDos.

In the school holidays, Kalani competed in the South Island Surf Championships and won in the U12 Category!

Over the last two weeks, Tahuna has been holding a lip sync battle during lunch times. We have had three different groups from R13 get up and give it a go! It's awesome to see kids putting themselves outside of their comfort zone and having some fun on stage!

What a way to end the term!!

This week we had our first visit to the new Tahuna Library

Congratulations to Darcy and Chris who were voted to be Room 13 Class Councillors. A special mention to Tommy who came in third place and will be our deputy. Well done to everyone who put their name forward and gave a speech to the class - was a very close vote!

For writing this week, we looked at the picture book 'The Best Part of Me'.

A big welcome to Miss Goldfinch who is a third year Otago University college student working in Room 13 this year.

Math games are a big part our math programme and always a favourite in math rotations. Throughout the last two weeks we have been learning to play different games and getting to know each other as a class. Blokus is a class favourite!

This week in maths we have been putting our problem solving skills to the test.

This week we were lucky to have a First Aid session around injuries at camp from St John.
