Book Launch - Kiss of Death by Stephen Tester

Congratulations to Stephen Tester (our Learning Area Leader for Social Sciences) on becoming a published author.
    by Lucinda Lendrum

His debut historical crime/legal thriller, Kiss of Death, will be launched in the Girvan Library at 5.00 pm on Friday 15 March which is the same day as the Runathon. You are warmly invited to join him there.

Stephen will be introduced by human rights barrister, Michael Bott, in an interview format and the launch will feature the students of the WC Performing Arts Academy performing one of the many courtroom scenes from the novel.

Kiss of Death will be available for sale in all good bookstores from 14 March, but because Stephen’s publisher, Heritage Press, is sponsoring the Runathon, if you pre-order your copy through the WC Runathon page to collect on the day, or buy a copy at the launch, then 50% of the purchase price of $34.99 will go towards the Runathon charities.

More information about the novel can be found on Stephen’s website

Here is an extract from the blurb:

It’s 1918, in a Wellington that few people would recognise today, and two major events are about to collide: The signing of the Armistice to end World War I, and the soldier-borne plague we now call the Spanish flu. Into this comes Wellington’s only female lawyer, leading her group of Sapphist friends as they attempt to strike a blow for women’s freedom. They go head-to-head with the authorities while she finds herself acting as Crown prosecutor in the case of a wealthy socialite’s “murder” of her husband by kissing him.

This powerful, hilarious, and evocative portrait of life in Edwardian New Zealand is the work of a barrister turned history teacher and will take the reader on an unforgettable journey. Stephen Tester is destined to be a major force in New Zealand crime fiction.
