On Friday 10 June several kura, their supporting whānau and friends gathered at Pūtangitangi Greenmeadows Centre for the 2022 annual Ngā Manu Kōrero competition.

This year's newly established Cultural Committee have been working hard to lead positive change. The group's vision is centred around supporting Nayland College to be culturally diverse and inclusive with a specific focus on ensuring that principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi are upheld.

Recently, the Level 2 Psychology students ran Nayland’s first ever Human Behaviour Science Emporium.

In spite of some very wet weather, our inaugural Matariki Celebration was a wonderful collaboration celebrating Māori New Year and the amazing talents of our wonderful students.

It was a celebration of good books, story, and the art of reading. The annual Top of the South/Te Tau Ihu o Te Waka-a-Māui Readers Cup competition took place on the 28th June at Nelson College for Girls.

In Science, 9X2 are learning about how to use environmental DNA (eDNA) as a way to detect marine pest invaders in the ocean.

On Wednesday 22 June, the Learning Support Centre took two teams to the Special Olympics Football Tournament held at Saxton Stadium.

And we are getting ready to welcome some new students to our Nayland college community.

Really close and good game of Basketball on Thursday night with Nayland taking the lead for a good portion of the game.

Really good game with Stoke-Nayland putting up a strong fight to the end, getting a few tries in a row. Congratulations to Waimea who won in the end and well done to all our Nayland students who made them work for it!

It has been a busy term in the Careers Department with weekly vocational experiences, NMIT Taster Days, University Liaison visits and Puna Ako sessions for Y13's on University.

Nominations are invited for the election of two parent representatives to the Nayland College School Board. A nomination form is included in this article and hard copies may be collected from reception. Nominations close at 12pm Thursday 4 August.

All whānau Māori are welcome to take part in this hui which will take place at Nayland College from 5:30pm-7:00pm on Wednesday 27 July. The focus for this hui will be on governance. Please check your email for more information.
