Construction of our new Hall will begin next month and we hope to be able to use it in the first half of next year. The Hall will hold the entire school for assemblies and other functions and it will also provide a much needed space to showcase the performing arts.  

The newly elected Board of Trustees thanks all those who stood for election, and also to the community for participating in the election by voting. We are fortunate that so many qualified community members are prepared to offer their support of the governance of the school.

Old Boy cyclist Keagan Girdlestone was involved in an accident while competing in Italy. Keagan, cycling at full speed, went through the rear window of a team car suffering serious facial injuries.

The choir at CBHS has been enjoying a renaissance over the past couple of years under the continued direction of Barbara Mulholland and the new addition of Daniel Cooper (CBHS 2011-14) as assistant musical director. The choir relished the opportunity to perform at the regional Big Sing competition held at Knox Presbyterian Church on Friday 24 June.

On the evening of June 29th, Year 11 students from took part in the annual interschool Canterbury Mathematical Association Calculator Competition. In the teams event, our A team consisting of Rio Ogino, Jack Chapman, Jaeyoon Kim and Alex Goodenbaur finished 2nd equal, just one point behind the winning team, in the teams event. 

We are running the Cactus programme again this term, its focus is on Leadership and targeted toward some of the senior students who would like more leadership training and exposure. Junior students are also welcome to apply. 

Christchurch Boys’ High School have been working with businesses in Christchurch through our Business Partnership programme for over 10 years. Computer Concepts Limited is one of Christchurch’s leading ICT companies and earlier this year a partnership was established with CBHS. The video above shows last years class trips to CCL where two Year 10 classes visited their data centre and service desk.  

CBHS have invited the Parenting Toolbox to run a parenting course at CBHS. Parents in the past have found them to be very informative, engaging and have appreciated that they offered a range of tools that can benefit any parent.

Term 3 is a very busy term for our senior students. Tracking credits, completing assessments and preparing for the end of year externals should all be a key focus. For the Year 13 students considering tertiary study next year, there are a number of important dates to be aware of and several applications that need to be made, to secure a place in the course and institution of their choice.

The PTA have another eventful term ahead including hosting some fantastic information evenings with presenters Mike King and Nathan Mikaere-Wallis. Be sure to save these dates...

30 riders took part in the recent South Island Championships that were held at Ruapuna race track over the first weekend of the holidays. The team rode three races over the two days. An individual time trial, the team time trial and the scratch race based on age group.

Year 13 student Ben Chippendale brought up his 40th cap for the 1st XV on Saturday, playing against Rangiora High School.

Benji Lapslie achieved the Under 19 Golden Boot award at this years NZF National Youth Futsal Championships over the holidays.

During the first week of the July school holidays, ten of this year’s 1st XV were invited to the Crusader Knights live-in camp held at St Andrews College.

Christchurch Boys' High Rowing is now taking registrations for the 2016-17 season. Upon registration you will receive information on key dates for regattas and camps planned for the season. 

CBHS Rowing are looking forward to the 2016/17 season and aim to build on their successful Maadi 2016 campaign. The rowing programme requires significant fundraising to help cover the ongoing costs of boat and gear replacement and its maintenance.
