ESOL at Merrin offers support to our learners who are learning English in addition to their own language. We have a team of teaching assistants to support children in their classroom programme.

On Monday 30th January many of our new families were welcomed at an International BBQ.

We are very excited to welcome Kevin Zheng, Sarah Cheng and Wilson Cheng, all Year 4 students, who have joined us in the past 3 months.

What are they?  Where do they live?  Why would anyone want to have one?

During the April holidays Mrs J visited the Yang Jing Experimental Primary School. Mrs J was warmly welcomed and shown around this interesting elementary school.

On Friday the Gray Group listened to a story called "Show and Tell" by Jen McVeity.  It is a book that repeats a similar story pattern. Each day the things brought to school begin with a different letter.

The Lunar New Year began on 8 February.  We have learned interesting things about the traditions and stories that are the basis of celebrating this most auspicious day.

Angela, Daniel and Alan's time at Merrin School has come to an end.

This morning the students in the the ESOL classes visited the Antarctic Centre as part of their Language Experience Programme.

After play, at the ESOL class, Glenn painted our roof green. We were still working in the ESOL classroom when he was painting.

Merrin School has a problem with the pipes. The pipes are broken and they are leaking.

On Friday 5th June the Adult ESOL classes started at Merrin School for the parents of our ESOL students. 

The Year 1 ESOL students read a story about eating so we decided to try out some noodles.

While visiting the amazing Museum at Drumheller in Canada, to learn about the Dinosaurs, Mrs J took lots of photos to share with her ESOL students. 

The International Parents meeting was held at Cafe Euro on Thursday 26th March at 2.00.

After our excellent turnout for the last International Parents' Meeting the ESOL team are keen to continue with these meetings!

The ESOL department would like to thank all those parents who came with us on our trip to Orana Park.

On Thursday 12th March the ESOL students visited Orana Park to continue their study about animals.

The largest animal ever . . .  is the blue whale.

This Thursday the students from the ESOL classes will visit Orana Park to participate in their Education Programme about the different animals at the Park. 

ESOL students, Junie and Son Min, complete a "Compare and Contrast Venn Diagram" to show  the differences between Lions and Tigers.

On Friday 27th February, the Merrin School PTA held its summer picnic in the grounds at the back of the school. The weather was beautiful and many International families took the opportunity of meeting under the trees to have their picnic tea. 

Two nine year old students, accompanied by their Mothers, have been at Merrin School for the last 2 weeks.
