Year 11 Outdoor Education students enjoyed a good day out at Carey’s bay on the Otago Harbour for their final assessment as the finale of their Kayaking unit.

We are now entering the final term for the year and many end of year activities and celebrations are looming.

Recently I, along with nine other youth from all over New Zealand, was lucky enough to have been selected as a Young Ambassador for the Shared Histories programme.

The following students are expected to attend and receive an award at our annual Cultural & Scholar Blues Celebration on Tuesday 18 October starting at 7pm in the OGHS Hall.

In the last week of term twenty students from OGHS and OBHS travelled to Whangarei in Northland to support their speakers in the Ngä Manu Kõrero Nationals.

In the holidays the sailing team enjoyed three beautiful days on Lake Wanaka. 

In less than two months 19 girls, Miss Ward and I will be in Thailand ready for a month long adventure. Eighteen months ago we all signed up for the World Challenge Expedition to Thailand and Cambodia.

On 16 September we had two teams from Otago Girls’ High School enter the HP 48 Hours film making competition. It is an incredibly busy, yet rewarding weekend. All ages can enter, watch out for next years dates and see Ms Joyce.

Hello term four. Gosh, where has the year gone? Are you sure we’re not just starting term two or three? As a Year 13 student the year has certainly flown by, but I’m sure other girls in other year levels will be feeling the shock as well.

Over the weekend 17/18 September the Taekwondo Nationals were held in Christchurch, Renee Perenara Nikita Mcdonald and Tahlia Roome and myself all took part in the tournament

The St Johns Regional Competition was held recently and three OGHS students competed. Congratulations. 

Alana Donkin, Rebecca McNaughton and Charlotte Becconsall-Ryan pull out all the stops for another challenging race in this years Women's Spring Challenge.  

Last term was a very busy time in the Careers Department. A number of students attended some excellent Star Courses and gained valuable skills and credits.

On Wednesday 22 September Holly Paterson, Charlotte Becconsall-Ryan, Kiana Pelasio and Alice Moran were given the opportunity to have breakfast with the Silver Ferns coach Janine Southby .

On Saturday 24 September our Senior A & B Netball teams, Senior A Basketball team and Senior A Hockey team hosted St Mary’s Anglican Girls School from Perth. 

The majority of winter sports will be starting now. Sports draws are placed weekly on the gym notice board and are also posted on the OGHS Community Notice Board which is accessed via the school website. 

There are still quite a number of winter sports uniforms outstanding, along with school tracksuits. It would be appreciated if these could be handed into the Sports Co-ordinator as soon as possible. Also please check in those little hidden places in your bedrooms for any other uniforms that may belong to OGHS, we would appreciate if these could all be returned – thank you.

Last term, eight enthusiastic Year 9 and 10 students enjoyed an adventure-filled day competing in the Otago and Southland Get2Go Challenge.

Congratulations to Alicia McKean for being accepted into the Rotary Youth Science and Technology Forum to be held at Auckland University in January 2017. Congratulations to Erin Ford for be accepted into the International Rotary Youth Science and Technology Forum in Canberra Australia in January 2017.

During the holidays (and the last week of Term 3) a group of nine students and two staff set off on their long awaited trip to Argentina and Chile. The students spent 10 days in the capital (Buenos Aires) living with a host family to experience real South American culture.
