West End Kindergarten
At Ruahine West End Kindergarten we continually strive to strengthen whanaungatanga - respectful, trusting, and collaborative relationships with tamariki and whānau, which are fundamental to learning and a sense of belonging.
We recognise the unique bi-cultural heritage of Aotearoa and celebrate the individuality and mana of each child. Our environment is rich in resources and learning experiences which challenge all learners, and Te Reo Māori and tikanga are woven into daily learning.
Tamariki are encouraged to build positive and respectful relationships which support the emotional wellbeing, cultural identity and diversity of all learners.
We have embraced the Enviroschools kaupapa and tamariki learn what it means to be a kaitiaki - guardian of Aotearoa, showing atawhai (kindness) and kawenga (responsibility) towards our environment, while developing sustainable practices.
Our tamariki are encouraged to lead their own learning and persevere with difficulty, building a resilient "I can" attitude and growing as kaiārahi (leaders) and confident, life long learners.

What Our Whānau Say:
“Amazing teachers, amazing values that they uphold and pass on to the children. An environment that caters to the many children and their learning needs.”
“Such a cool learning environment for the kids, big space for them to be outside in, and the fact that they are an enviroschool and uphold values that we do.”
“When we visited, the teachers there were amazing - friendly, approachable, experienced, and calm.”
"From our first visit were made to feel so important and valued. It has been like this the whole way through. We are very sad to leave."
"They nurtured an amazing sense of belonging and wellbeing in both children."
"The aroha and kindness from everyone make it a very special place. It will be hard to match it. The importance placed on special events like birthdays and graduation. Really special. So beautifully done. Help and support with children as they grow. For example toileting. Help work with home and offer support when it's needed. Just the general joy and happiness around the place."
"Thank you, West End Kindergarten! It’s a sad moment to have my kids leave such a fantastic kindy. Thanks for being such an awesome group of teachers to my sons, much appreciated."
"The teaching team cared for and made extra effort to make my child feel welcome and that she belonged. The way the teachers helped her settle in and took interest in her and encouraged her made her experience at West End Kindy amazing. The teachers went above and beyond to see her grow.”
"Always greeted in the morning with big smiles."
"My child absolutely loves going, feels part of the kindergarten family."
