This year we have begun working on Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L). This is a Ministry of Education initiative that aims to improves the behaviour and wellbeing of children.

Over the past few weeks seven Stanley Bay teams of year 5/6 students have taken part in a series of EPro8 in-school challenges in which they have used our new EPro8 resource kits to build large-sized structures, solve practical problems, engineer using pulleys, motors, gears, wheels and axles, invent machines that can complete simple tasks and undertake unusual and fun experiments.

On Friday, 16 October, Stanley Bay School will be celebrating Pink Shirt Day and raising money to support the kaupapa. We will be part of a powerful movement to spread aroha and kindness and end bullying.

We have had amazing writing throughout the school, with a record number of Principal awards being awarded this week. Well done!

This popular, 6 - session practical course is now being offered to Stanley Bay School parents. Combining Mindfulness training with research-based effective Parenting techniques, to arm you with the tools you need to manage your own well-being as well as your family’s, as you navigate this parenting journey to create a calm and mindful family.

We are returning with our school holiday workshops in October! Our Hoop33 Thunder workshops are run as an extension of our regular player development programme designed to give all our young ballers some extra hoops in the holidays - more chances to learn, more chances to play!

Illuminate kids’ hearts and minds with this magical giant-scale glow-in-the-dark puppet show! Go under the sea with a courageous Kina on her journey of discovery across the Pacific Ocean to Aotearoa. It’s a delightful story of our kai moana and the whakatauki ‘He waka eke noa. We are all in this together.’

Are the kids down that the football season is over? Get them having fun with our football holiday programme! Girls and boys from 5 to 13 are welcome. The week is full of exciting games and tournaments. Our team of highly qualified staff will ensure your kids have a ball in a positive and safe environment!

We are running two weeks worth of science and technology classes these coming holidays. Our courses are currently discounted by 25% making them only $60.00 per day.

Classes will be running on Friday lunchtimes in the Kelly Club Room. After months of construction work Rooms 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are finally back in the newly refurbished classrooms. The teachers and children are absolutely loving the new spaces.

Our fundraising target for this event was $8,000 but with the challenges of Covid we weren’t sure what the outcome would be. Surpassing all our expectations this small but mighty school community has raised $17,934! More than double the target!

Harbour Softball organised a peninsula wide tournament. Unfortunately, the tournament had to be cancelled, but Harbour took five of our Stanley Bay teams down to Ngataringa playing field for our own mini school tournament.

After a long wait, our library is finally open again but we need your help.

Stanley Bay students have been training hard all term for the cross country. The children put their hearts into the event and pushed themselves to complete the course. The results are at the bottom of this article. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

The 5.9km fun run/ walk from Takapuna to Milford is on Sunday 8th November and promises to be another great event with plenty of awesome costumes and spot prizes up for grabs!!

For our initial week of home learning, we have been continuing our learning of language features, along with discovering their purpose and use in the modern world. We decided to look at hyperbole, imperatives and continue practice using our interesting adjectives while we attempt to sell some delicious home baking. We also began learning how to write to inform/report, and learning to select relevant information for an audience. The students decided to present their writing through a news flash presentation

We are delighted are incredibly proud of the recorded performance produced from Lisa in Room 10.

The children in Rm 13 have been using their art skills to come up with some funky designs for masks.

Student wellbeing is a key to learning success, we have put together a tool kit that we hope you find useful to support your children when coming back to school and beyond.

The leaders were Lizzy Turner, Ella and Luke Tibbotts, Brody Baker and Mac Wilson. There was one leader who helped with creating the presentation, but wasn’t able to turn up, and that was Poppy Cousins.

Phew, what a crazy few weeks, but we are back and ready to hit the ground running.

Each subject test will be available online for a specific period of time. The school will make sure all children who are signed up and paid for ICAS testing to sit the test during this time.

Friends of Stanley Bay School are pleased to announce that the inaugural SBS Knowledge-athon exceeded all our expectations.

Ropu Pihinga (Year's 3 and 4) had a well timed trip to Auckland's Art Gallery as part of Term 3's art inquiry.

As we work our way through Level 3 there are a number of school operations and events that will be affected.

The Stanley Bay Flames are the Year 6 Girls' Basketball Team. The last game we played was a tie, with eight points each. We played against St Marys Wildcats.

Our Stanley Bay students were treated to a rousing band performance last week from the TGS concert band.

In response to the pandemic, the online platform Nanogirl’s Lab was specifically built to help families explore hands-on STEM activities at home - using things they already have lying around the house.

Home Learning TV | Papa Kāinga TV will be back on Monday 17 August to support learning for children aged 2-to-11 years while Auckland remains in Alert Level 3

On Wednesday the juniors celebrated one hundred days at school which we have counted from the beginning of the year.

Congratulations to the 50 players from years 4, 5 and 6 who took part in last week's Chess Power cluster tournament held annually at our school.

To celebrate the efforts of tamariki, teachers and parents in learning and raising funds for the inaugural SBS Knowledge-athon we are having a special assembly on Friday, 14 August at 2pm.

When children are at school they learn so much more than subject-specific curriculum. From the minute they walk in the gate, they are learning skills and ways of being crucial for achievement in school and life.

Last week on Friday three players from the Auckland Huskies basketball team came to our school. The players who visited were the Tall Black Tohi Smith-Milner, Reuben Fitselgard and Nate Wilson.

As we welcomed students back this week it has been wonderful to hear about the many adventures that have been had in our own backyard.

Matariki is the Māori name for a star constellation that rises up into the sky in mid-winter, signaling the Māori New Year. It is an important event as it is a celebration of people, culture, language, spirituality and history.
