Sport at Marshland School

Marcella Wood - March 4, 2025

We have had a busy start to sport at Te Rito Harakeke with Yr 5-8 Swimming sports, Triathlon and PALS leadership training all taking place in the first half of the term.

Swimming Sports

On Monday 24th February we hosted our Senior Swimming Sports at Qe2. This was a fantastic day where our Yr 5-8 students had the opportunity to compete in both competitive and fun water based races. The competitive events included freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly. However, the Kick board, noodle, and relay races were by far the biggest crowd-pleasers of the day! Throughout the day Students gained points for their school house by competing in different races and activities. It is my pleasure to announce Kahu Kiwi as the winning house of the Swimming Cup in 2025!

Also a massive congratulations to the 23 students who qualified to represent Marshland School at the upcoming Zone Swimming sports on Friday 21st of March. These students have received more information via HERO about the day.

Canterbury Primary Sports Triathlon

On Tuesday 25th February we had 5 students compete in the Primary Sports Canterbury Schools Triathlon. This was a challenging competition involving a lake swim, bike and run. I have been told all our competitors proudly represented Marshland School, "putting their heart and soul into their races". A massive congratulations to Mauritz, Louie, Emanuel, Matt and Patrick for taking on this challenge.

Pals Leadership Training

Also on Tuesday, February 25th, eight of our Mana and Kori Kaihautū participated in a Physical Activity Leadership training course. They learned the necessary skills to organize playground activities and assist our juniors during sports days. These leaders were outstanding, embodying all of the MANA values. They are now creating a schedule to determine when they will begin applying these skills in the playground.

At Marshland School we are proud to offer students a range of sporting opportunities. Make sure to regularly check HERO throughout the year to stay updated on upcoming events.
