On Saturday 20th, the 1st XV took out the UC Championship with a one point victory over Shirley Boys' High School.

There have been some outstanding achievements by students recently covering the entire spectrum from the performing arts, to academia, to music. I was very proud to be able to support our Jazz Musicians at Southern Jam and enjoyed their success. 

Wednesday 31 August is the last day the school can accept these on behalf of NZQA. After that date fees will have to be paid directly to NZQA.

Noho marae week after week, practices and performances every Tuesday and Thursday totalling more than 400 hours of training. This is the commitment required for a secondary schools national Kapa Haka campaign!

A number of Old Boys have been recently featured in the media. 

On Friday 19 August, a number of staff took a large group of Kapa Haka boys and a few cyclists to the airport to welcome back recent Old Boy Keagan Girdlestone from Europe. 

Once a month on a Saturday morning the CBHS Food Tech rooms are used by Bellyful Christchurch. Bellyful supports families with newborn babies and those young families struggling with illness without other support. We deliver, free of charge, around 200 meals to approximately 40 families every month.

This year 980,000 students from the Oceania region participated in ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) competitions and assessments. From our school 142 students took part in the Science Competition held in May.

Mike King is coming to CBHS on Monday the 29th of August at 6:00pm (not the 30th as previously advertised).

With 2017 course selections currently happening, the Careers Department is a hive of activity. Below is some important information for students.

Gateway students Harry Oberg-Nordt, Matt Swain, Josh Allen, Harry Milligan and Gateway Coordinator, Mrs Eustace, all enjoyed taking part in the Big Construction Tour Day organised by BCITO late last term. 

By the end of this term, nine out of the ten Year 10 classes will have completed their individualised Career and Learning Plan. This is a 3 hour in-class unit that seeks to get students started on the transition road from school to something else.

Southern Youth Jam Jazz Festival is a 4 day long Secondary School Jazz Music Competition / Festival held each year in early Term 3, in Blenheim. The CBHS Jazz groups competed this year playing some of the toughest music they had encountered and they did exceptionally well. 2016 saw the biggest festival yet, with 17 different schools from around the South Island vying for Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards along with individual honours as well. 

Stage Challenge for me was a great experience and a great opportunity for me to have a go at a leadership role. I have done Stage Challenge twice before and this year I got the opportunity to be a leader of the 2016 Stage Challenge.

A highlight of 2016 for a group of 11 CBHS athletes was a 7 day trip to the Gold Coast to compete in the Down Under Meet. This event is held annually and CBHS has, in the past, sent teams to compete. The trip was planned for 2015 however with Miss Todd being unwell it was postponed . Sadly a hip replacement just a week out for Coach Todd meant that she was unable to join us as planned.

Representing New Zealand, CBHS golf No. 1 Tom Parker recently secured his first major golf win in New Caledonia at the South Pacific Junior Open.

Year 9 Laurence Pithie has won yet another National Title. This time Pithie combined his talents on the bike with his undoubted running ability to win the recent National Secondary Schools Duathlon in Auckland.

CBHS Rowing are looking forward to the 2016/17 season and aim to build on their successful Maadi 2016 campaign. The rowing programme requires significant fundraising to help cover the ongoing costs of boat and gear replacement and its maintenance.
