2020 Staff Leavers

The Year 13s had their final Columba farewell on Monday.

The staff celebrated St Jenness Day with an exhibition of Ms Riethmaier's life at Columba College.

During Term 4, the Year 6 class have been reflecting on their time in the Junior School and the special memories and friendships they have made.

Mrs Walker first came to Columba in 1995 to fill a position vacated during the year.

As part of our Social Studies Government unit, all Year 9 students have actively taken part in our annual Year 9 election.

Our Year 7 classes have enjoyed a shared Indian lunch to complement their India study and finish off their year.

Year 13 students received quite a surprise when they opened their English paper this year.

On Sunday 6th December, five of our equestrian team members competed at the Gore Pony Club Interschool Show Jumping Competition.

On Sunday 22nd November, Columba sent two teams to Invercargill for the Junior South Island Volleyball Champs. The three-day indoor volleyball tournament was followed up with many of the girls competing in the South Island Junior Beach Championships on the 26th.

Year 10 Drama presented 'Trois Bouris Aveugles' in Term 4 as part of The Arts Soiree and as their second production ('Medea' by Euripides was the first).

The Columba College Junior B team arrived in Invercargill with very little experience. They are a young team, comprised of all year 9 players, with the exception of the year 10 captain and setter, Tayla Finlay. It was a gruelling week with up to 9 games against some of the South Island’s best teams.

Congratulations to Skyla Murray who has been named as the Concertmaster of the NZSSSO for the 2020/21 Season. Skyla will be performing music by Khachaturian, Ritchie and Brahms at St Margaret's College in Christchurch on April 24th 2021.

On Wednesday 25 November, the Junior A water polo team left to go to Christchurch for the South Island Junior water polo tournament.

Two Columba athletes have been gaining great momentum on the running track over recent months, and as the NZSS National Athletics Championships draw near, hopes are high for these two talented runners.

Congratulations to our Columba College Senior A Handball team for coming second in the tightly contested Senior A Division of the Otago Secondary Schools Sports Association Handball Competition.

Holiday Opening Hours

Miss Elizabeth Wilson awarded PhD and her thesis placed on the Humanities Divisional List of Exceptional Doctoral Theses.

We have just heard that Ellen Riley, a relatively new member of Year 7, was awarded the Extra! Magazine Years 7&8 Poetry Award for 2020.

Columba College is proud to announce the appointment of two new Distinguished Alumnae - Ms Jan Bolwell ONZM, who attended the College from 1957 – 1967, and Ms Terry MacTavish MNZM, who attended from 1962 – 1966. Both recipients have had distinguished careers in the arts.

Over the past 2-3 weeks, in our final English unit for the year, the girls have worked on a passion project, in time set aside for ‘Genius Hour’.

On November 16th, the Junior Kapa Haka enjoyed performing in their new outfits for their friends, teachers and parents.

If you are 13+ years old, and love the beach, you are invited to become a lifeguard for a day or perhaps more.

Columba College is fortunate to have Jim Hoffman offering his Tennis Coaching Programme for students of our Junior School again in 2021. Available for Years 2 - 6, the programme is scheduled to begin on 11th February 2021.

Jim Hoffman is running a Holiday Badminton Programme this year, December 14th - 18th. The programme will run daily from 9.00am to 3.00pm, and is a great way to keep your child active and engaged this festive season!
