The political football that is Education has been hitting the headlines post election as one would expect. The attention to attendance trends is one I fully endorse as we simply need our tamariki to attend school so they can fully take part in 'Building Brighter Futures'. Included in this Panui are the government guidelines around sickness and when you can make the call to send your child to School.

In regards to Structured Literacy a lot has been written across the last week around the roll out of this one tool to cure our reading woes. At Cotswold Mātāhae we have always taken a structured approach to the teaching of literacy, we use explicit acts of teaching to meet the needs of all. You may be aware that we have adopted, after quite some research, the Joy Allcock method. This programme gives very explicit teaching instructions across Primary aged learners. The graphic used as the cover photo for this article shows the steps our learners take as we grow readers and writers. If you would like to investigate more about this resource click on this link

Senior Cross Country 2024 — Image by: Marie Bianco

It has been a pleasant start to the first of our winter terms, my thanks for those that have already put up their hand to assist the many happenings in and around our School. The Senior Cross Country was an enjoyable event with many supporters and whanau not only cheering on the runners but also marshalling around the course.

Room 14 and 15 are loving their room classrooms — Image by: Marie Bianco

The refurbishment Rooms 14 and 15 is now completed with two of our New Entrant/Year 1 classes inhabiting their new spaces.  This means every functioning regularly used classroom in the school is up to a very pleasing standard.

Just a reminder we have our School Disco on tomorrow evening in the School Hall.

  • Junior Disco 6-7pm (Year 0-3)
  • Senior Disco 7.30-8.30pm (Year 4-6)

Thank you to our Parents Association members for organising the disco, and to our parent community for coming along.

If I can be of assistance do make contact.

Nga mihi nui
