The 14th of June 2024 will forever be a lasting memory for the History students here at Hamilton Girls’ High School. We had the honour and the privilege of hosting a pivotal figure, and her daughter, from the Black Civil Rights movement in the United States.

The Hamilton Girls' High School 3x3 Basketball team won the grand final of the Basketball New Zealand 3x3 Secondary School National Championships.

Te Maurea Whiritoi, our combined Hamilton Girls' and Hamilton Boys' High kapa haka rōpū, spent Week 9 of Term 2 in Nelson taking part in Ngā Kapa Haka Kura Tuarua o Aotearoa 2024.

ACE Week is a long standing tradition and involves a week-long initiative undertaken and carried out by the Academic Council of Hamilton Girls’ High.

This year on the 17th of May our school celebrated Pink Shirt Day. This is an anti-bullying event which aims to raise awareness of the issue.

Zarah Rattray won Gold in the U18 400m Hurdles at the Oceania Championships.

Pippa Mihaka has been named in the NZ Swimming Team to compete at the Tri Series meet against two Australian states, Victoria and Western Australia, in October this year.

The StreetSquad Crews had an incredible experience competing at the World Supremacy Battlegrounds in Sydney, Australia.

Hamilton Girls' High School partnered with the Waikato Regional Council as part of the Secondary School Employer Partnerships program, culminating in visits at the end of Term 1 on the 28th of March, and the 5th and 10th of April.

Jasmine will perform at the 2024 “Panda’s Singing” Chengdu International Children’s Chorus Week as part of the Hamilton based Tron Songsters Children’s Choir.

At the beginning of Term 2, te rōpu kapa haka o Te Maurea Whiritoi drove out to Kāwhia, to attend our yearly Kapa Haka camp at Waipapa marae.

After considerable thought, 2023 alumna Sariah Ibarra has signed her first full-time professional rugby contract with USA Rugby. She will be plying her trade on the world stage on the Sevens circuit playing for the USA.

The World Vision Youth Conference was held at the Trusts Events Centre in Auckland.

In Week 6 of this term, we had our first-ever House Competition heats for the Talent Quest.

Our Barbershop Chorus and quartets competed at the Young Singers in Harmony regional competition on Monday 10th June, and came away with some commendable results.

Our First XV Rugby Team has taken out the Chiefs Manawa competition for 2024.

International Languages week is an event specifically dedicated to celebrate the diversity of languages spoken around the world.

As part of the World Refugee Day, a group of Year 12 and 13 refugee and migrant students were invited to a Migrant and Former Refugee Experience by the University of Waikato.

Our HGHS Choir recently competed at the Big Sing choir competition, where they got to immerse themselves in the exhilarating environment and listen to the talents of 19 other Waikato/Bay of Plenty choirs.

Peyton represented New Zealand skiing at the Trans-Tasman Waterski Challenge, held at Lake Charm, Australia on the 13th and 14th April.

Level 1 Geography explored their own backyard by collecting data on the health of Hamilton Lake and the wider domain.

On the 23rd of May, Hamilton Girls’ High School was proud to recognise an important day for many wāhine in Aotearoa, Pink Ribbon Day.

Cross Country was held on the 9th of May on a crisp clear day. The course is 4km long in and around the HGHS school grounds.

On Wednesday 26th June, our Year 9 Whānau leaders attended WYLD DAY at Waikato University.

Year 12 and 13 Japanese Language students had a great time at Shinjuku Restaurant on June 17th!

Tēnei te mihi nui ki Ngāti Wairere, a huge thank you to Ngāti Wairere for hosting the incredible Taiora Symposium 2024 on June 19th in beautiful Kirikiriroa.

On Thursday 30th May, our HGHS Squash Team travelled to Cambridge to compete in the Waikato Secondary School Individual Championships.

Level Three Tourism Students had a great day in the last week of Term 1 visiting different tourist attractions and activities.
