Dear Parents and Caregivers, As we come to the close of Term Three, I am once again reminded of how fast the school year goes and how much schools seem to pack onto these tight ten week blocks.

As Term 3 draws to a close and the weather heats up, the Deans find themselves reflecting on how quickly this year has flown by.

Education should give every New Zealander the freedom and opportunity to be the best they can be.

Term 3 started with a host of new students from Korea, Japan, France, Italy and Germany. WELCOME TO OUR NEW STUDENTS!!

Term 3 CACTUS students and staff ventured to Pines Beach for their early morning session.

The Senior Boys' Basketball season began in February. We had a total of 28 boys try out to make a 12 man roster.

The Junior Boys had an amazing season this year. All the boys worked hard throughout the year, but sadly just missed out on the semi finals in the Friday Night competition.

The Senior A team participated in the 55th Annual Senior Secondary Schools' Netball Tournament in Dunedin from 3rd to 6th September.

Nine Years 9 and 10 girls travelled to Timaru to compete in the premier Junior Basketball Championship.

The Senior Girls' Basketball team recently contested the South Island Secondary Schools' tournament in Invercargill.

Yet again another basketball season draws to an end and what an honour and a privilege it was to be part of a determined, hardworking young group of Junior and Intermediate girls.

Congratulations to the Kaiapoi High School Team 3 Netball team who won 5th Grade in the Saturday competition at North Canterbury.

On Wednesday 22nd August a group of Year 9 and 10 Kaiapoi High School students competed against other high schools around Canterbury in the annual Cantamath Competition.

On Wednesday 29th August, Artemis Hingston, Carli Wells , Kaylee McCracken, and Sam Scott competed in the Year 12 Mathematics competition hosted at Burnside High School.

The Kaiapoi High School Formal for 2018 was 'The Phantom of The Opera' theme.

This year 9H and 9Q were the first group to embark on Year 9 camp on 20th August.

Abi Watts from 9V writes... "At camp we did lots of different activities, ranging from high ropes to walking across a river on a wire.

Miss Ladkin and I spent a fantastic three days away with 9A and 9T.

This year 9C were the last group to embark on Year 9 camp.

On behalf of Kaiapoi High School, we would like to thank Kaiapoi New World for their sponsorship for Rugby tickets to the Crusaders finals in 2018. Staff and families appreciated to be able to go and see the team win.

On Thursday 30th August a showcase of NCEA Dance Choreography and Performance, Junior Choreography and Ensemble, Royal NZ Ballet, Hagley Dance Company and competition dances from 2018 was held in the KHS Auditorium.

Congratulations to Emily Pitt in Year 13 Photography who was awarded 1st Place in the "Windsor Gallery Canterbury Year 13 High Schools' Art Competition."

On Tuesday 21st August, the Footnote Dance Company NZ came to Kaiapoi High to run a contemporary dance workshop with our dance students.

Eight dancers successfully represented Kaiapoi High School at the DanceNZmade Inter-school Regional Competition held on Monday 30 July.

Kaiapoi High School's Student Wellbeing Team consists of both a Counselling Team and a Health ClinicTeam. We are trialling a new booking system that will enable students to make their own appointments online. See attached file on how to access the new system.

Recently, I was lucky enough to be able to compete in the U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup in a New Zealand team that made history, being the first ever New Zealand female age group team to qualify for a World Cup.

After six weeks of planning a menu, sourcing ingredients and experimenting with flavour combinations, Karanga Mai student and aspiring chef, Brianna Johns-Mills, presented a stunning morning tea for staff and students.

On 28th June the Year 13 Chemistry class went to see the University of Canterbury’s new Ernest Rutherford Building to learn about Spectroscopy.

On Wednesday 27th June eight of our outstanding Year 11 Maths students competed against 21 Canterbury schools at the CMA Calculator Competition in Hagley College.

15 students from Kaiapoi High School volunteered to help run the North Canterbury Cantamath Competition on Wednesday 1st August.

During the Term Two holidays, two of our students, Shanae Marsters and Te Ara Mercep took on the opportunity to speak to the North Canterbury branch of Zonta, a long-standing organisation for the empowerment of women.

On Saturday 4th August a team of four senior students competed in the New Zealand Engineering Science Competition.

Hi!! In July I went to Canada, having been granted the opportunity to represent New Zealand in the U17 Emerging Sox team!
