Christian Schools Sports Exchange

  Sports Exchange 2024 by

On Wednesday, April 10th, KingsWay School hosted Hamilton Christian School and Elim College in a Tri-School Sports exchange.

The schools sent their Senior 1st teams for a pre-season tournament in Basketball, Football, Hockey, Netball and Volleyball throughout the day.

The day kicked off with a welcoming Haka performed by our Senior Students.

Throughout the day, we saw great competition, with some games coming down to countback to decide winners. KingsWay teams were greatly supported by the students. Chants of “ Go KingsWay, Go KingsWay” echoed through the Events Centre, where the teams played Basketball and Volleyball.

Students cheered the teams from the balcony and sideline outside on the football field. Some great goals were scored, and awesome tackles were seen.

The Netball girls played great netball on the Astro with plenty of support during break times. As a result, the spectators were rewarded with some stunning interceptions and great goals.

Across the bridge, our 1st XI Hockey teams played well at our local HBC Hockey turf. Due to a late withdrawal from HCS, our Junior Boys Hockey team, comprised of Year 9 & 10 players, got to play their first game on a full-size turf and showed real potential for the future.

While the teams were having a great day playing sports and connecting with other students from Christian schools, a great deal of hard work was taking place in the background. Our prefects and Year 10 Hospitality team, ably led by 2023 ex-students Grace Bridge and Chistie Strydom, made scrumptious burgers and served them to nearly 300 players, coaches, and staff.

After dinner the teams went to the Events Centre which had transformed from a Basketball court to a place of combined praise and worship as our student worship team lead them through some powerful songs.

Ross Georgiou then ended the evening with an inspiring talk on how Sport and God so naturally go together. He talked about how our players can continue to grow and develop as individuals, both on and off the field. He emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance in achieving success not only in sports but also in life. The students were inspired by his words and left the event with a renewed sense of determination and purpose.

Overall, the Christian Schools Sports Exchange was a fantastic day filled with friendly competition, camaraderie, and meaningful experiences for all involved.
