Christian Community of Learning - Celebrating Easter

Easter Assembly Video - The Easter Story by

Easter is the pinnacle of the Christian calendar. As we celebrated Jesus's death and resurrection, we were reminded of God's love for us, the forgiveness we can find in Jesus, and the hope for a good future because of what Jesus achieved. Through his work on the cross, Jesus achieved power over sin and death and can bring us into a right relationship with the creator of the universe.

Across the school in Lifelab and Devotion classes, students were engaged in interactive activities that taught the Easter story and reminded them of what the significance is to our lives. Teachers acknowledged the Easter story by weaving it into their programmes differently and through student discussions and reflections. Activities were age-appropriate, ranging from a ‘Stations of the Cross’ series, which reminded the students of the suffering and pain that Jesus encountered, whilst other classes created ‘praise posters’, which reminded students of the outcome of the cross.

Stations of the Cross

In the Primary School, leading up to Easter and Holy Week, the students completed sequencing activities, written activities, crafts and Arts related to Easter. They discussed why Easter eggs are hollow (linking it to the empty tomb), why bunnies are associated with Easter and connecting it all to a Biblical world view.

During Year 6 Devotions, the students discussed some important questions related to Jesus, such as who he is, why he died on the cross for us, and how he forms a part of our lives today. They did a visual art project where students were asked to draw and paint a cross. Furthermore, the students were tasked with writing a paragraph explaining what Easter means to them.

The Easter assemblies were a fantastic celebration of student performances of music, dance, and drama interspersed with scripture and a message that drew our attention to the message of salvation and what this means for us. Students could respond to the message with prayer, praise, and reflection questions.

Many thanks to Aimee Robinson, Lisa Lin and the Arts Council for organising these assemblies.
