Not even the toughest Covid interruptions could stop the artistic talents of Tauranga Girls’ College and Tauranga Boys’ College students making it to the stage during the combined TGC & TBC Arts Showcase.

The annual Art Exhibition, Artful Wahine opens Thursday 18 August. The Exhibition is held at “The People’s Gallery” in the Historic Village. Artful Wahine will be open until 09 September. There is a selection of amazing artwork on display, a definite must-see cultural event.

On Friday 12 August, Tauranga Girls’ College ākonga had the privilege of hearing from Hon James Shaw, Minister of Climate Change. Joining him were Labour MP Angie Warren-Clark, Bay of Plenty Regional Council CEO and TGC Board member Fiona McTavish and local council candidate Kat Macmillan.

On Thursday 18 August, five ākonga from Tauranga Girls’ College and Tauranga Boys’ College battled it out for the Brian Hammond Memorial Shield at the 25th annual Great Debate, sponsored by Tauranga City Sunrise Lions Club.

Leigh Summerville is an Accounting teacher at Tauranga Girls’ College. She has been a Secondary school teacher for close to 30 years, teaching in co-educational, boys' and girls’ colleges. Over time in her teaching, she has seen a real disconnect happening with students not valuing who they are and trying to find external sources of fulfillment, instead of looking inside.

On Thursday 11 August TGC held our 2022 pathways planning evening.

To celebrate the wide range of ākonga at Tauranga Girls’ College, TGC held a full-school assembly with the theme of ‘Diversity’.

Our 2022 NZ secondary schools squash campaign began on Thursday 04 August with a drive to Auckland’s North Shore Squash Club, which became our home and playing venue for the next four days. 46 teams, from 38 different schools and over 270 competitors playing for the title of best NZ Secondary Schools Squash Team 2022.

On Friday 12 August, our Level 2 English students were lucky to have two visiting poets, Carrie Rudzinski and Olivia Hall, do spoken poetry for them.
