Thursday 17 June was a much anticipated date for all of the region's choirs. Choirs throughout NZ work for months to hone their vocal skills and gather once a year in their regions to present a programme of pieces before a choral adjudicator in the hopes of gaining a recommendation through to the National Big Sing Finale or Cadenza.

Tauranga Girls' College involvement in the wider Dance community was evident at the latest Champion of Champions competition held at Baycourt Theatre.

School will be closed on Friday 2 July for 'Kotahitanga', our inaugural Tauranga Peninsula Kāhui Ako Teacher Only Day. This day will bring together all 15 kura in our community of learning which includes TBC and TIS, many primary schools and ECE's.

Matariki is a time to gather with family and friends to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.

As the sun set the magic of the night transported our guests into a magical garden setting … Surrounded by lush greenery, sparkling lights, tree canopies, floral arrangements, lanterns, and soft candles it was a night to remember.

Within our community we've come to understand that certain terms can make others feel small and discriminated against. For example the terms 'gay' or specific racial slurs. Recently, a team of leaders have been looking into the term 'mufti' and whether it is deemed culturally appropriate.

June 1969 was a defining time for LGBTQ+ history. The Stonewall Riots, one of the most violent yet important events in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, sparked the conversation which would pave the way for gay liberation.

Our Dance Showcase was a great success with a variety of performances from our curricular and extracurricular Dance students.

On Friday 4 June the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver groups went on an expedition to the Pinnacles. The Pinnacles, situated in the Coromandel, takes four hours in total to hike up. The mountain is 729m high.

Decision Reach Out Toromai Trust offered the school four fully paid scholarships to Year 12 students to travel to Hillary Outdoor Pursuit Center in Tongariro to spend five days doing a variety of leadership and teamwork activities with students from other schools in the area.

Felicity, age 24, soprano, past Tauranga Girls' College pupil, graduated from the University of Waikato as a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar with conjoint Bachelor of Music (voice) and Bachelor of Science (biochemistry) degrees.

Nau mai, haere mai whānau! On Thursday 29 July Tauranga Girls’ College will be holding the 2021 Pathway Planning Evening from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. This evening is an opportunity for whānau and rangatahi from Year 9 to Year 12 to come into the kura to discuss with TGC staff and tertiary providers their subject choices and pathway planning for 2022 and beyond; considered and informed choices are the best to make!

On Tuesday 1 June students from the Learning Hub took the Art Bus to the Art Gallery to see an exhibition by Christina Pataiali'i.

A collaboration of Careers staff from Tauranga Girls’ College, Papamoa College and Aquinas College saw 'HE ARA TIKA - A Pathway Forward' come to life on Friday 11 June.

Great day for our TGC athletes

Bright and early on 10 May, the Year 13 Economics class began the journey to Wellington on the Northern Explorer train. Venturing off typical roading, it was a fantastic experience to see rolling hills, deep canyons, and the raw beauty that New Zealand has to offer - something we often miss when caught up in our everyday lives. The eight-hour train ride also gave us the opportunity to bond over cards and music with peers we usually wouldn’t have sat with in a classroom setting.

Thursday 3 June we had our School Cross Country event. It was a perfect day for everyone to take on the course around the school grounds and Gate Pa Primary.

Three teams took the trip to Hamilton to participate in this fun event.
