With cooler weather here, it is important to remind whānau about uniform requirements.

UHC has shown its appreciation for its junior students by creating a Junior Celebration week, put on by the junior student council. Student Layla Martin-Smith takes us through the eventful week.

Year 12 Adventure students have been put to the test, taking on Mt Holdsworth for a tramp. Students Brooke Binner, Emma Meinel, Paige Garwood, Charli Deans and Jakob Huntley give us a day by day recount of the trip.

It's been a busy old term for sport at UHC with a lot of codes operating with a business as usual mentality before getting to the business end of seasons, next term. However, we have a few important successes to share and acknowledgments to make as well as the farewell of our Director or Sport!

The Year 9 History course covers exciting elements of Māori and Egyptian history. As a part of the one term programme, we finished our model of Ruapekapeka Pa. Teacher Philip Carew runs through the story that inspired the class to build a lifelike model.

This term's Year 9 History class started with a brief diversion from the curriculum. We took a week to focus on ANZAC Day and what it means and then built a tableau from the top of a pallet that the school gets it’s photocopy paper on.

A team of 57 students, lead by director Sophie Weston and co-choreographers Maddie Gray and Dominic Burns, marched excitedly into the Michael Fowler Centre and enjoyed the return to a full Showquest event since 2019. HOD Dance, Donna Devaroe, takes us through the performance.

In Week 8 of Term 2, UHC celebrated its LGBTQIA+ students by taking part in National Schools Pride Week. On each day of the week, there was a different activity run by UHC’s Queer Straight Alliance (QSA) leaders that brought queer students together every lunchtime. The Upper Hutt College Barbershop Quartet and the Singing Chorus competed in the Youth Singers in Harmony singing competition for the Wellington Region. Student Hupstein Eng runs us through the melodies.

Due to the recent online boom of chess, there was a lot of anticipation for the Annual UHC chess tournament, and it didn't disappoint! Year 13 student Anjola Sigbeku runs us through the action.

Those students who catch Bus number 930 have a slight change in the bus route, meaning those impacted will not need to walk to Heretaunga College.

It seems that term 2 rushed by in the blink of an eye. During the term I switched my focus to connecting with parents willing to share their experiences. A big thank you to those individuals who have shared their stories with me already. I’m still keen to hear from more parents about their connection to UHC, so please get in touch!
