As we head into the Term 3 break, we have been reflecting on the term, what a crazy 10 weeks it has been!

Devonport Rotary, in partnership with Bayleys Real Estate Ltd, is to hold its fourth Fine Homes Tour of Devonport this year. A great day out with friends or take your Mum for a look through some incredibly stunning homes. This will showcase 10 exclusive Devonport homes plus a local Ryman Village apartment. On the day there are added bonuses of a limited number of “Goodie Bags” to purchase, as well as decorated Christmas Cakes, Christmas Decorations and the opportunity to win one of the amazing raffle prizes.

On the back of the success of the term 2 science open day the students and teachers have been working hard to share their learning about the arts on Tuesday 24th of September. To allow parents to visit each learning area and for the students to see what each team have been up to we have decided to stagger the day.

Maori Language Week was celebrated at SBS last week. The whole school participated in a selection of activities based around Maori culture.

2019 was a great year for girls’ rugby at Stanley Bay, with 10 girls playing a full season for the North Shore club in the girls-only Rippa competitions.

Last week I attended the North Shore Principals Summit Day where we were inspired by the keynote speaker, Thomas Hoerr, PhD. Hoerr is currently Scholar Residence at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and teaches in the Educational Leadership program, prior to this he was the principal for 34 years at New City School in St. Louis, Missouri, and is now the Emeritus Head of School. Amongst his achievements, Hoerr has written five books – most recently, The Formative Five (2016).

On Thursday 29 August we held a parent information evening to tell you about the Stanley Bay Curriculum. This article is a summary of the key points of the evening. The attached video is an interesting insight into the changes that are happening globally with school curricula.

Every two years schools are required to consult with the community regarding the delivery of the health education components of the NZ National Curriculum.

What a season the Stanley Bay Stingers have had!

On Friday 16 August three dance crew's from Stanley Bay School took part in the Annual Peninsula Dance festival at Belmont Intermediate School. The junior crew performed a pirate ribbon dance and both the Y3 and 4 group and the Y5 and 6 group performed contemporary dances.

Homework or home learning has always been a hotly debated subject...by teachers, parents and students. We often get asked 'what does it look like at Stanley Bay?'. We are hoping that this article will help clarify our expectations of home learning.

The inaugural Stanley Bay Stampede was an absolute success. One parent described families as having “face-splitting smiles and laughing until their bellies hurt.”

70 fabulous volunteers gave their time and expertise to make this event possible.

Post mud run our field needs a rest.

On 1 August a mixture of SBS Y3-4 and Y6 children took part in this tournament along with a selection of local schools.

A group of parents has been working with Auckland Transport to bring walking school buses back to Stanley Bay.

In the school holidays the girls spent a very productive day creating, baking & selling goods to raise funds for our school.

What a fabulous day for Stanley Bay... a hugely successful event that raised the spirits of the community. Mud, rain, mud, sun, more mud and a whole lot of happy smiling people!

Russell Street is a busy area at drop off and pick up times and can create safety issues for our children.

Congratulations to Linda Simmons, who has been awarded Bayley's No.1 North Shore agent for the first quarter of this financial year.

It’s less than 2 weeks to go until the Stampede. We are delighted to already have over 200 kids and parents signed-up to take on the obstacle course. The hay bales are ordered, the ninja steps are ready, and the foam cannon is on its way. If you haven’t signed up yet, please follow these 4 easy steps:

Lights and lanterns adorned the field last term when the children discovered their creative side and designed and constructed their own illuminated lanterns. There was some fantastic handiwork and it was a lovely gathering of family. A great time was had by all!

The Stanley Bay Slammers have had an amazing season of basketball and earnt a place in the Championship finals. The Slammers worked hard and put up an amazing fight, but after a very tense game, they lost to The Manuka Bullets 12-16. Congratulations Boys on coming 2nd place.

Last term the children immersed themselves in all that is science and wowed us with their creativity, presentation skills, knowledge and enthusiasm. The classrooms and hall were alive with excitement and it was a pleasure to join in the energy of this open afternoon.

We are very excited to let you know that the long-awaited playground, funded by the hard work and commitment of the Friends of Stanley Bay, will be built this term.

NZ Police recently launched a new non emergency number, 105. They've done this to make it easier to get hold of them in the event of non-urgent situations or ‘Things which have Already Happened’, which don’t require Police assistance immediately.

To successfully and safely run the Stampede, we require volunteers to be involved to help out in various ways, such as marshals on the obstacles, baking for the bake stall, handing out spot prizes. Volunteering still allows you to run or watch your children and most roles only require a couple of hours of your time so you can enjoy the rest of the event with your family. Don’t worry if your child is running at the time you’ve volunteered, we’ll make sure you can step away to enjoy the run with them.
