The challenge was to ‘Build a Better Future’ and come up with a creation in Minecraft that helps to protect our environment.

This competition is a collaboration between the faculties of Arts and Science. Students were encouraged to show their love of science through expressive artistic mediums.

Dance NZ Made Palmerston North 24th-25th September

After two long years of cancelled events this year the Junior Boys Basketball team finally got to go to Nelson for the South Island Secondary Schools Junior Basketball Tournament.

Over the weekend of the 24th-25th of September the NIWA Canterbury Science and Technology Fair was held at the University of Canterbury. We had 4 entries and all came away winning prizes!

For the first time in three years the New Zealand Secondary Schools Winter Tournament Week was able to go ahead without disruption. Burnside High School had 15 teams competing in ten different sporting codes.

2022 has seen two performances presented in the Aurora this year.

It has been a privilege to be the captain of the Burnside Boys Hockey First XI, and I am pleased to say that the future of Hockey at Burnside is in capable hands. There were many changes and challenges that we had to face throughout the year, which we conquered together.

This year's Quiz was held on Wednesday 28th September at St. Margaret's College. Both Burnside teams did exceptionally well and were outstanding representatives for our school.

On Saturday, August 27, eight of our French students sat their DELF examination, and passed with outstanding results.

Five days of sailing, sea, salt and sand, plus a trophy.

The environment Group will be sad to see our dedicated Year 13 students leave us next term.

Between the 29th of August and the 1st of September, three students from Burnside high school competed in the South Island Secondary Schools Equestrian Championships.

National Poetry Day fell half-way through this term. We made a Poet-tree which sprouted new spring growth as students sent in their creations.

We had forty of our talented Year 9 and 10 students attend the Gifted and Talented conferences at St Andrews College in 2022.

Six students from Year 9 to 13 spent three days engaging in this event which followed the procedures of the New Zealand Parliament.

Could you make a working drum machine, using aluminum rods, joiners, screws and bolts? How about a movable stage light system? A method to measure crowd sizes?

Congratulations to Alfie Trafford, Sahel Mohammadi, Alex Dubery, Tom Hoang, Callum Maule, Penny Yang, and Steven Ye who traveled to Paraparaumu to compete at the WPNZ National Powerlifting Championships last weekend.

On Thursday 11 August the following keen beans travelled up to Mount Hutt, through the snow and low cloud, to partake in the annual racing.
