Year 12 and 13 students taking Agriculture or Farming as part of the Futures Academy programme have been making the most of the crisp winter days recently!

As we come to the end of Term 2, I wish to thank all of our students for their leadership and for their service to our school. Not only did we celebrate a service day earlier in the term, but since then, groups of students have continued to help in the wider community by giving of their time and of their skill. Thank you to my colleagues also, who continue to give so much of their time in order for our learners to be better than before so that they can continue to make a positive difference where they stand.

Winter 2021 is a very exciting time for Tauranga Girls’ College, with the introduction of new uniform pants. After a three year planning and consultation process, the Board of Trustees is proud to announce the official TGC navy winter pants will be available for sale from 28 June onwards.

Congratulations to Sarah Lee whose performance in the Chamber Music NZ competitions gained her two major awards and a place in the National Semi - Finals.

A Kāhui Ako initiative has seen our Tauranga Girls' and Boys' College prefects visiting and supporting local Tauranga Peninsula Kāhui ako Primary Schools throughout Term 2.

On a cold Thursday morning last week, Tauranga Girls’ College came together in the Sports Hall for the House Haka competition.

Students gathered around J block at lunchtime were treated to two flashmobs over the last week thanks to our Year 10 Dance students!

Over Queen’s Birthday weekend three budding thespians: Inaya Sinclair, Alymayu Ramirez Lema and Talia MacKinnon, along with Drama teacher Ms Cassells, drove to Wellington for the National Shakespeare Festival.

120 Year 9 Business Studies students participated in their Market Day during a school lunchtime on Wednesday 23 June.

Year 11 Geography students visited the Waitomo Caves in Week 9 and Week 10 this term to study the impacts of tourism on the cave environment and to look at the sustainability of the tourism operations there.

This year has been another great year for Tauranga Girls' College Squash in growing our numbers and honing our skills. We have 30 girls, from graded to ungraded players, regularly training Wednesday mornings. Our aim is to get girls participating in the sport, being active and having fun, whilst also being introduced to tournament play.

I really enjoyed the 2021 kiwifruit season at Trevelyan’s. It encouraged me to open up to new people, learn new words, as well as connecting with different cultures. Everyone was caring and friendly, almost felt like I was at home with such positive people around me.

On Wednesday 23 June, twenty of our senior Badminton players competed in a tournament against local WBOP schools. This was to see if they could qualify to compete in the Senior secondary schools BOP Champs in Term 3.

Over the weekend of 26 - 27 June, the Senior Underwater Hockey team competed at the Northern Secondary School’s qualifying competition, held at Baywave Mt Maunganui.

Eight students went to Mount Sports Centre to compete in the BOP Indoor Bowls Competition
