Canterbury Athletics ChampsBest of luck to Grace Moriarty and Cole Phillips who head off to the champs this weekend!
Next weekThe last week of term 1 sees Tee ball and Softball on Monday for our primary students and then the one and only CASAfest where 40 of our students head away to Oxford for 4 days of competition and fun.
Assembly Today I had the pleasure of presenting our leadership and achievement badges during assembly. These were given to our form and whanau leaders and those that monitor the buses each day. I also had the opportunity to award NCEA certificate badges for those that received merit or excellence endorsements in their NCEA awards last year. Our Head Students presented their award to Grace Moriarty for her sporting accomplishments and my Principal’s award went to Ben Langford for showing our school values each and every day.
Education Review OfficeIn the first week of Term 2 we will be contacted by the Education Review Office and start our journey with them using their new model for supporting schools. This model has the potential to be really positive with the school building a relationship over time with one person rather than the old three day team inspection that really had questionable value. We are looking forward to working with this new system for school review to celebrate the things we do well and seek out the ways we can improve.
Staffing Changes You may have heard through the grapevine that Mr Anink has made the tough decision to retire by the end of Term 2. We are interviewing on the 19th April for a new Year 7 and 8 teacher to replace Adrian Black who will be taking a more central role in our Hard Materials Department once Mr Anink finishes up. At the same time we will be interviewing for a third teacher in Te Kooti to meet the demands of our new entrants coming into school for the second half of the year.
Field Spraying
Please note this is being killed off over the term break so please stay off the senior field during this time.
Have a great weekend.

IMPETIGO / SCHOOL SORESImpetigo is a common contagious infection of the skin that is in the community at present. It is very common in children, but can also be present in adults. Caused by 2 bacteria, it gets into breaks in the skins surface and causes blisters that transform into weeping then crusty scabs. Usually noticeable on hands and faces, but can be in other areas of the body too. The blisters can itch or feel like they are burning.
They are easily spread by itching, touching, sharing towels or clothing and it is really important that you see you GP for advice and assessment if you think you or your child may have it.
You can clean and soothe the scabs by doing bleach or vinegar baths, then keep the areas covered with a dressing or a bandage until treatment begins to work.
Once a cream or antibiotic is prescribed the children should not attend preschool, school, sports or swimming until 24 hours after the start of treatment to prevent further spread amongst peers or family.
If you are concerned, give your GP a call, but keep an eye out for them. They spread quickly.
Yours in Good Health
