Wellington Girls’ College has a set of basic principles for all staff. Employees have a personal responsibility for ensuring that their activities comply with these basic principles. Should a situation occur where no specific guidelines exist, their conduct should be compliant with the spirit of the basic principles. Should any conduct take place that is in conflict with the basic principles then it should be reported to the Principal without delay.
In addition, all teachers employed at Wellington Girls’ College are expected to abide by Our Code, Our Standards from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Three principles which all staff are expected to observe are:
- Staff should fulfil their lawful obligations to Wellington Girls’ College Board with professionalism and integrity.
- Staff should perform official duties honestly, faithfully and efficiently, respecting the rights of the students, the school community and colleagues.
- Staff should not bring their employer into disrepute through their activities, whether inside or outside school. Activities outside the school are not likely to be acceptable if they:
- Damage the standing or reputation of Wellington Girls’ College and its Board;
- Interfere with the proper performance of the duties of any staff member.
This means that staff members should:
- Work within the law with honesty and integrity;
- Comply with all lawful and reasonable instructions;
- Comply with the guidelines and procedures of Wellington Girls’ College Board, including the use of school property;
- Work diligently and be loyal to the culture of Wellington Girls’ College;
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the learning culture of Wellington Girls’ College;
- Respect the rights of colleagues, students and the school community;
- Be fair and impartial in respect to students.
