I would like to announce that I am finishing full time teaching at Grey Lynn School at the end of this year.

We are thrilled to be given the opportunity to work with Bunnings NZ on a Collaborative Project for graduating students . A group of 6 students worked with a team from Bunnings Grey Lynn building a friendship bench for the school.

Grey Lynn school kids took some time out this term to master the art and joy of skateboarding.

As the temperatures rise so to is our need to cool off and at Grey Lynn School we’re so lucky we still have a school pool.

On Friday 8th November, Grey Lynn School’s 2019 Athletics was held at Grey Lynn Park.

Inner city basketball was a huge clash of around 14 teams all playing each other, trying to win the 2019 tournament.

Kia Ora families and welcome to Term 4 and beyond! We have been busy on Williamson 2. Please pop up and see our amazing art on the walls, some wacky bugs in the Maker Space and our path to Inquiry in the Retreat Space.

Puriri Team are really excited to be back at school after the holidays. It has been lovely to come together everyday for some practice for our upcoming Athletics Day. The final term of the year is a time for celebration and sharing. Surrey One are focussed on growing skills of positivity to equip students to see the good in all and to share this with others. Rooms 6 and 7 are focussed on growing their skills of being inclusive in and out of the classroom.

Kia ora families The Kowhai team has begun athletics training ready for our school event on the 8th of November. We have been practising sprints, high jump, long jump, shot put and discus. The students are moving through rotations in their PRIDE teams to strengthen the bonds between them and reinforce the values we expect at Grey Lynn School.

On Monday 18th November you are in for a treat when you will have an opportunity to hear the music that children have been practising over the last few months.

The Grey Lynn Lightning Strikes team having been playing futsal for two terms now in the Auckland Futsal Central West Y3/4 league on Friday’s after school at Unitec in Mt Albert.

A huge thanks from the children, staff and families from Grey Lynn School. Constable Rob has been a long time friend and favourite visitor to our school promoting safety and care for the community. We will miss your smiling face.

Stage 3 of our school build is complete and we celebrate the new Grey Lynn School Hall and Arts Centre this week!

Early on Wednesday, our school Kaumatua Taura Eruera along with our Staff and Board of Trustees blessed our spaces ready for our students and community to use.

We would like to welcome Feleti, Otis, Maddison-Rose, Harry, Sakura, Ema and Romy who have recently started in Room 7 with Mrs Dean, Morgan and Lucy. And Mele in Room 5 with Stacey who has transferred to us from another school.

The chaise was part of an installation at World Park(ing) Day on Tyler St in Britomart, where CAAHT Studio occupied a street carpark and reimagined it into a space for people rather than cars for a day.

What a fantastic term this has been; full of learning, winter sports, much wind and raindrops.

On Thursday 26th September, two GLS Hockey Teams went to Inner City Hockey tournament at Auckland Grammar turf.

On Thursday the 19th of September Grey Lynn School had two teams competing at the Inner City Netball tournament held at Netball North Harbour.

Grey Lynn School is successful because of the incredible support that our whanau offer our school through time, skills and resources.

Grey Lynn School took part in the Primary Schools – Champs of Champs 2019 Rugby Comp.

We believe that we all have opportunities to impact on the world; each day we have an influence on all people around us, our families, colleagues, those who provide us with goods or services. We are all ‘Learning today to shape tomorrow’ and our influence each day matters.

The Grey Lynn swim team made up of Year 5 and Year 6 students swam in the Auckland Swim League competition during Term 2 and Term 3.

The committed team consisted of Lily Baker, Sofia Beatson-Smith, Harper Crane, India Fraser, Beata Granberg, Greta Rodger, Ava Seawright, Sienna Solway and Rose Todd. They are the terrific Tigers!

On Tuesday 3rd of September, Surrey One was excited to have a visit from Zoo Ventures.

Great people are hard to find… and we are thrilled to add some new gems to our Grey Lynn School staff!

Your local junior basketball club Bay City Slick based out of YMCA City have been proud to gift these hoops to Grey Lynn School.

Rhys Keenan, Year 6, wrote a rap about stopping animal cruelty, for his Rehu Tai.

The Totara Team held their Rehu Tai finals on Tuesday the 3rd of September. All the students spoke beautifully and all judges remarked on the quality of their writing and performance and also about the happiness in our learning space.

The end of season Y6 netball Fun Carnival was held at North Harbour on Wednesday 28 August from 4 – 7pm.

What a great season the Lions had!

What a great day that was! It was a real pleasure to have coached both A and B teams and then see them do well at the Inner City Tournament.

We would like to welcome Benjamin, Joshua and Tess who have recently started in Room 7 with Mrs Dean.

Last Friday, Grey Lynn School was privileged to have visiting author, Janet Hunt.

We celebrate Cook Island Language week and support "Taku rama, taau toi: ora te Reo" - "My Torch, Your Adze: The Language Lives"

The teachers and support staff of Grey Lynn School are joining with their colleagues all over the country on 9 August to call on the government to give primary and intermediate principals a fair deal. And we need your support as we stand up for our principal, and all principals. The staff, will be wearing Green and we encourage our students and families to join in to show your support.

The GLS Year 3 & 4 basketball team has just concluded its first season!

After 4 weeks of living and learning in our Kawharu spaces, I can honestly say that the staff and students are thoroughly enjoying them. No one has ever said “ I wish we were back in our prefabs”.

The Year 5/ 6 Inner City Cross Country was a huge success at Grey Lynn Park today. The sun was shining and spirits were high.

Today we held our School Cross Country event with all our students stepping up and reaching their personal best with the sunshine beaming down on us.

Our day started on the courts, with a blessing by Taura and a walk through each new space. Each class followed their teachers to their spaces and explored their environment.

Today we had a wonderful opportunity for our students and teachers to strengthen and build their relationships and promote whaka whanaungatanga as we participated in learning activities together right here at Grey Lynn School. We all had an awesome time!

Our dawn blessing was a wonderful experience for all who came.

We welcome new students, whanau and staff to our GLS family. We are proud of our students and staff as together we welcomed our new people with a traditional Maori welcome; a powhiri.

The Year 5/6 team have been watching our new building very closely and as the completion date comes closer, so does the reality that we are going to be moving in there and doing our collaborative learning without walls! How exciting!

What a wonderful community celebration ALOHA19 was! The food, weather, students and staff and our talented line up came together to make a fantastic night!

On Thursday the 4th of April Grey Lynn School sent two teams to the Inner City School's Softball Competition at Cox's Bay. A huge thank you to our coaches, John Keenan, Tadhg Stopford, Caleb Kiata and Anthony Kalolo. John also sponsored the players with some awesome caps! Thanks so much John.

GLS sent their alofa’aga and aroha to Christchurch victims with a donation and minute of remembrance today at our school assembly.

Update No 1 - Thursday 21 March 2019

After 5 1/2 years here at GLS I'm spreading my wings and looking forward to my next vocational adventure!

Our school pool looks fantastic with its recent upgrades; I am sure that it has made our students better… but has it made them faster at a competition? It seems to be the case at recent swimming events! It was wonderful to see so many families at our swimming events across the school.

The first Nitro wheels afternoon was a huge success. Thanks to the keen group of boys from Year 5 - Leo, Felix, William, Sam C, Arlo and Sam B who set this up.

We would like to welcome the following children who have started in Room 6 - Dhanya & Maya Aaltio-Narayan, Oscar Harbord and Ronit Patel

Our students are smiling, forming new friendships, settling into class routines and rising to the high expectations which teachers have of them in and outside of the classroom.

On Thursday 28 February we had two Grey Lynn School teams involved in the Year 5 & 6 Inner City Cricket competition at Victoria Park. Thanks to our awesome parent volunteers who were able to help with transport and duties on the day and Sandie and Kerry for organising.

Aloha is around the corner and there is lots of creativity happening . A large group of helping hands from Year 1-6 have been busy making colourful blooms at our flower workshops held at lunchtimes.
