The HBHS Futsal teams have been all-conquering in the Waikato Competition.

The end of the year saw two of our up-and-coming junior musicians achieve on the National stage.

Maxwell Kara (Year 9) was the co-captain of this team, scoring the winning try in the drop-off, in what was described as an “epic” final. Kiwa Rata (Year 11), also scored a try in the drop-off.

After going through their two-day tournament undefeated in all six games, played at King's College, Auckland on Saturday 3rd, and Sunday 5th December, beating Kelston BHS 22-21 in the final.

Four Year 10 boarders at Argyle House were part of the team that were defeated in the final 10-9 by Te Wharekura O Rakaumangamanga: Lexis Marsh, Houkura Lunjevich, Jayden Rudolph and Koewyn Kearins-Te Whare. Koewyn was also selected into the Tournament team at the conclusion of the tournament.

Having just returned from Guam as a member of the New Zealand Under 15 Basketball team that competed at the Oceania Under 15 Basketball Championships from 21st - 26th November.

2022 saw the welcome return of this very special event, and as you will see from the wide shots, it was very well attended!

Wearing a white shirt and a blazer covered in badges displaying his many achievements, Cayden sat at the front of the room with an air of confidence. Recently named Head Boy of Hamilton Boys’ High, Cayden is prepared to lead the school throughout 2022. However, becoming Head Boy was not an easy achievement.

The start of the school year was delayed until mid-April, due to an outbreak of poliomyelitis that swept the country. In light of our current circumstances, it feels right to reflect on our past experiences...

Up until the 1930s and 1940s, pupils had to commute to larger towns and cities for secondary education from places that only had a primary school. For example, from rural Waikato students travelled from Matamata and further into Hamilton to attend Hamilton High School.

Daniel (Year 11) led the Te Awamutu Equestrian Club to victory in the 'North Island Timberlands Teams' Event'

Daniel won the Sir Mark Todd Cup and NZPCA Perpetual Dressage Cup as an Under 15 rider. Daniel's Waikato Area Pony Club also won the Team Competition Cup for the first time in nine years.

Sam is an adrenaline junkie who enjoys pushing himself to his limits in the outdoors.

Cooper has been riding competitively for a number of years, but has adopted a more cautious approach after breaking his femur in a Motocross accident prior to coming in to Argyle House. It took almost a year for Cooper's injury to heal and now you can't hold Cooper back, as he is on the track, competing with the very best in his class and winning.

On the last Sunday of October, Argyle House headed to Gym 1 to celebrate all of the successes of 2022. It felt wonderful to be back together with all of our Argyle whānau, so we made the absolute most of this opportunity. Enjoy! 😊

Record numbers entering the Waikato Volleyball Junior Secondary Schools saw HBHS enter five teams across the three boys divisions.

Our Year 11 NCEA students travelled on a beautiful Friday in Term 2 to the suspended mountain, Maungatautari.

On the final week of what was a crazy first term at HBHS, the Year 12 Geography students left Hamilton to venture eastwards to the Bay of Plenty

Our final field trip of the 2022 school year took place in May as our Year 13 NCEA and Year 11 IGCSE students made their way to Waihi Beach. Accompanying the students were Mrs Shephard, Mr Thomson, Miss Simmonds and Mr Dodunski.

Several weeks ago HBHS became the recipients of a magnificent storage trailer gifted by Robert McLean (Work & Play) to assist our rowing programme. Rob is an Old Boy of the school and absolutely loved his years at HBHS. He told us, "I'm just so proud to give back to the school that I love".

This year we introduced a Flash Fiction task to our NCEA English classes to get the courses off to a flying start. Students had to comply with a set of rules: the piece could not be more than 350 words, it had to begin with a question and end with a two-word sentence. Three key words also had to be integrated and there had to be a twist at the end. It was a fun exercise with some excellent writing coming through. Sahil Hira was named the Winner, with Tyler Curtis, Seth Davis and Liam Weston acknowledged as Highly Commended. Below is Sahil's story.
